First Grade Dolphin News

We are sailing through March and second trimester is coming to an end! The first graders attended Mass on Ash Wednesday to begin the holy season of Lent.  Today they participated in Stations of the Cross where we walk with Jesus.  They made beautiful promises for Lent like praying for their families, limiting TV, reading the Bible, and going to Mass on hearts.  This reminds them that Lent is a time to change our hearts and become closer to Jesus. The first graders finished their units on Sound and Light.  Next, they will begin learning about Habitats!  This is a huge unit for first grade that will take us to June.

The first graders have been working really hard to raise their hands and not blurt out in class.  They have earned a class party!  They chose a pajama party.  We will have this party on March 21.  Details to come as the day gets closer. Well done first graders!

Lent Rice Bowl: Rice bowls were sent home this week to help Catholic Relief Services or CRS. It is a faith-in-action program that helps families experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world. One way to bring Lent to life in your home is to place your CRS Rice Bowl in a prominent place in your home and use it to collect your Lenten sacrifices. (For first graders, this may look like doing acts of kindness at home to earn collections for others in your Rice Bowl.) We will be collecting Rice Bowls at the end of Lent.

Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day (March 14):  Remember if your child does not have a family member or friend coming, please email me and I will place him/her with a friend.  Your grandparent or special friend should come to the classroom to pick your child up and walk together to Egan Hall. Lunch begins at 11:00. Students should provide a sack lunch for themselves and their guests.  I will be there to bring your children back to the classroom when lunch and the performance are over.  They will need to find me in Egan Hall at the end!

Questions to Ask:

-What is the virtue for the month of March? (temperance)

-Name something you learned about light and how it travels.
