Happy New Year and Happy Epiphany! I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and some peaceful family time together. Your children have enjoyed sharing vacation stories with their classmates and me. The year began with a review of school and classroom rules. This week the first graders identified The Holy Family and learned about Epiphany. In math, students are continuing subtraction to 20. We also reviewed the definition of an adjective and used a mentor text to create a winter adjective word bank.
During the last week of January, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Please join us for 10:30 Mass on Sunday, January 28th. Following the service, teachers will be in their classrooms for an all school Open House. I hope you will be able to join us. During that week I would like to invite several parents to come talk about vocations with the class. If you are interested in visiting the class to share a little about what you do, please let me know.
In the New Year we are reviewing safety procedures and want to make sure we are prepared for all potential events. Comfort kits are an important part of this preparation for your child. If you have not yet sent one in, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks!

New Year Assessments
This week students completed a reading fluency test. This assessment helps teachers ensure students are being met where they are and challenged appropriately. There may be slight changes in reading groups to meet all students’ needs. Next week first graders will take the STAR reading assessment; we will share data results when they are available.
