First Grade Dolphin News

Happy New Year and Happy Epiphany! I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and some peaceful family time together. Your children have enjoyed sharing vacation stories with their classmates and me.  This week the first graders identified The Holy Family and learned about Epiphany. In math, students are learning subtraction strategies to 10.  We also did good fit book check-ins and I am so impressed with everyone’s reading growth! The only reading bags that were sent home today are from Mrs. McCarthy’s group.

During the month of January, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Please join us for 10:30 Mass on Sunday, January 27th.   Following the service, teachers will be in their classrooms for an all school Open House. I hope you will be able to join us. During that week I would like to invite several parents to come talk about vocations with the class. If you are interested in visiting the class to share a little about what you do, please let me know.

Volunteers

Thank you for signing up to volunteer in the classroom.  If you would like to lead an art project/lesson, please sign up under “Art Helper”.   Here is the link.  Volunteer Sign Up Link

Comfort Kits

In the New Year we are reviewing safety procedures and want to make sure we are prepared for all potential events.  Comfort kits are an important part of this preparation for your child. If you have not yet sent one in, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks!

Comfort Kit Contents:

socks, beanie, cup, flashlight, wipes, family pictures, letter from parents

Questions to Ask

– Who is in the Holy Family?

– What is your goal to work on for first grade?

– Name a subtraction fact where you subtract 0.  Name a subtraction fact where you subtract all (4-4=0).

Special Notes

– Star Dolphin for the week of January 14th is Aidan.

– No school on Monday, January 21st (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)

– As your child is becoming more independent, please check that he/she can tie his/her shoes and zip up his/her jacket and remembers to pack a snack and water bottle daily. These are all things we want them to do on their own in first grade! J
