Holy Week is a time of learning and reflection at St. John. Today we honored Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday through silent dismissal and spending the day unplugged (no technology). Students made Holy Week books, studied each of Jesus’ last days on Earth, and prayed with the school community Shadow Stations of the Cross. First graders worked hard on growing closer to Jesus throughout Lent.
Lenten Service Project: Thank you for your generous donations of books for the patients. The teachers had a chance to deliver the books to Children’s Hospital and they were very appreciative and thankful!
Habitat Day and Project: Save the date! May 24 will be Habitat Day in First Grade. To prepare for this day your children will create their very own 3D habitats and write animal reports. After Easter break (April 24) I will send home a Habitat Planning Sheet for your child to complete for homework. This planning sheet needs to be approved by me before your child can begin researching his/her animal and habitat.
Field Trip News: On May 19 we will go to the zoo to celebrate all we learned for our Habitat unit. I know many students have been to the zoo so the teachers created a game like the Amazing Race. Thank you to Mrs. Bergman, Mrs. Semick, and Mr. Slama for volunteering so far. Remember the more the volunteers the better the field trip will be! Thank you! Field Trip permission slips will go home in May.
Auction News: The St. John auction is coming! Tickets are on sale for the Totally Awesome 80’s Prom on April 28. Catalogs will go home on Monday, April 24. Keep a look out for our amazing first grade project!
I wish you all a very Happy Easter and special time with your families.
