First Grade Dolphins News

The first graders have had a busy, short week! Students attended class Mass in person with Fr. Crispin on Wednesday, and they were very prayerful and attentive. Well done to our readers, Theo, Cecilia, and Tevye! This week, students continued to learn about Lent through our daily reflections with Brother Francis and during religion time. They have started to learn about the stations of the cross and color in a stations book. Students learned about St. Dominic Savio, one of the youngest canonized saints. In math this week, first graders learned how to compare numbers using place value blocks, and using the language “greater than,” “less than,” and “equal to.” Today students participated in a special lesson about empathy and learning what it means to walk in someone else’s shoes. We talked about the upcoming changes they will see next week regarding masks, and we discussed the importance of being respectful of everyone’s  choice to wear a mask or not. Please continue this positive conversation at home with your child. Students also learned about our class CRS (Catholic Relief Services) rice bowl and about the countries that our rice bowl funds will serve at the end of Lent. In science, first graders began to learn about Habitats! Students learned that a habitat supports living organisms, such as animals, plants and human beings! Here is a fun chant!

As you know, we will be moving to a masks-optional campus beginning March 14th. As you discuss with your family what will work best for you in regards to masking/not masking, please let me know how I can best support you and your child at school. Thank you for continuing positive conversations at home regarding this change. We are in this together!
