First Grade Dolphin News
The students had a lovely week of learning about the Beatitudes through flowers. Books will be sent home next week. They finished their unit on subtraction to 10. They wrote color poems and wrote adjectives describing themselves on rainbow strips.
Catholic Schools Week is here! Please remember to join us at 10:30 Mass on Sunday (in dress uniform or cultural attire) and then at the Open House, following immediately after. Be sure to stop by Egan Hall to visit the cultural fair, the second floor for some tasty treats, and check out the second grade classrooms (portables). To celebrate this special time, each day will represent something different.
Catholic Schools Week Schedule
Monday: Free dress day/bring in a can of food for St. Vincent de Paul food drive
Tuesday: Say thank you to volunteers
Wednesday: Wear cultural dress or dress uniform
Thursday: Dress like a teacher day and bring in a flower
Friday: Purple and gold day- free lunch for students: Bring sunglasses, baseball cap, and a St John sweatshirt for our dance!
100 Day Project: The 100th day of school is fast approaching. To celebrate, students are asked to collect 100 words from magazines, newspapers, etc. Students will record their words on the homework grid and then use them to design a poster. Words can be arranged in a word, picture, pattern, or design of your choosing. Posters should be no larger than 35” x 25”. Posters and word lists are due February 21st. (assignment description was sent home last week)
STAR test results will be sent home today in your child’s folder. The STAR reading assessment is a computer-based test that helps determine level of books your child should read in order to make the best progress, this range is called the zone of proximal development (ZPD). Please keep in mind that these scores are approximate, but can offer you a guide for helping your child choose good fit books. Please keep STAR reports at home for your reference.
Reading Bags: Please remember to tell your child to bring their reading bag to school on Mondays. It is okay if you didn’t get to read to him/her on the weekend. We need the books back so we can use them for reading groups each day. Thank you!
