This is it!

Dolphin News (The Last Edition!)

Happy Summer Break! The first graders enjoyed their last few days of school. On Tuesday the first graders were busy. They performed their Spanish play (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-fBfB-uI0&feature=youtu.be) for the kindergarten class. Then they performed their dance for their 8th grade buddies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3Ols7_yRZc&feature=youtu.be). On Wednesday they performed their readers theatre for the kindergarten classes and read their writing pieces on “How to be a first grader”. Then they visited the 2nd grade teachers and asked a lot of good questions! Today we ended our special week with a wonderful Mass where we learned how much God loves us! Please check your child’s folder (bag) for his/her report card, STAR report, MAP test results, and SLE rubric.

During summer conferences, many parents asked me how they could encourage their reluctant readers who like math. Here is a wonderful link to lists of picture books with math themes. http://childrenspicturebooks.info/articles/picture_books_for_math.htm

I want to give a special thank you to my parent volunteers this year. Thank you to Ms. Szyszko, Mrs. Emberly, and Mrs. Marquez for organizing the auction project. Thank you to Mrs. Bergman, Mrs. Semick, and Mrs. Masters for helping in the library. Thank you art parents for inventive, creative art projects this year. Thank you to Mrs. Semick, Mrs. Bergman, Ms. Szyszko and Chloe’s grandmother Anastasia for helping during Daily 5. I know it seemed small but I could not have done it without you, honestly. Thank you to my sight word and math facts helpers: Mrs. Marquez, Mrs. Bergman, Mrs. Masters, Ms. Brink, Mrs. Emberly, Mr. McCants, Ms. Kay, Mrs. Slama, and Ms. Szyszko. Thank you Mrs. Emberly for covering our many books. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the field trips, helping with special events like Christmas Around the World and special parties. Last, but not least, thank you to all the parents who helped their children this year by preparing them for each day, reading with them, helping with homework, and supporting them this year. I appreciate it!

Thank you for the gift of SCRIP! I am so blessed to have such a generous class this year. I appreciate it so much along with the lovely cards and gifts.

Thank you for a wonderful year in first grade! Miss Brito and I appreciate all your support this year. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for trusting us with your child. You and your child can come by and visit next year. Have a wonderful summer and don’t forget to have your child pray, read, and play everyday!

First graders have had a busy week taking mastery tests, practicing a dance for our eighth grade buddies, and learning about the sacraments. Did you want to see the dance? Here is the link to the song we are using! Trolls Dance Music On Thursday the first graders had a great time eating lunch with their buddies and playing games at recess.

Summer Contract/Summer Packet

I like to give first graders a chance to set goals for summer learning to avoid any “summer slide” after all their hard work this year. I am sending home a copy of the contract for you to keep in a safe place. In your child’s folder there is a summer packet. It has ideas for reading and math. Please keep this for the summer months.

Thank You!

Thank you to Mrs. Eberly for coming in to help inventory and cover books. It is a daunting task and Miss Thornton and I appreciate your help! If anyone else from our class is interested in helping, please let me know.
